Welcome back to Part 2 of Ciara & Dan’s lovely spring wedding in Carlingford! The girls were ready well in time and talked the boys into meeting them at the beach for some pre-ceremony shots. I always LOVE moments like these; it makes a wedding so much more about love, fun & naturalness and much less calculated and formal.

10 years / double celebrations

10 years ago today my super-gorgeous friends Gary & Julie tied the knot.
It was to be the start of something special, not just for them, but for me too. 001

(seriously, how gorgeous are they?)

Within our social circle I was famous for always having my camera attached to me, so when their photographer took unwell shortly before the wedding, Gary called me & asked me to step in as official photographer. “Sure!” I said, naively.

And so theirs was my first ever wedding job.

Although I must have prepared a little, I admit I approached the whole thing very lightly. I went in gleefully without really knowing what I was doing! I shudder even more when I remember that I shot the WHOLE THING on 35mm film on my Canon AE1. Risky much?? I didn’t even have a digital camera back then. No back up camera. No extra equipment. No flash. No assistant. No experience. #shudder!
To this day I can’t believe a) I got away with it and b) that we’re still friends
003

(the venue was Burnhouse Manor, Ayrshire, which would become a favourite haunt in our social circle for many years to come)

Gary & Julie’s wedding was special to me for lots of reasons, reasons I wouldn’t appreciate for many years to come. Emotionally, I attach memories of having been dating my now-husband for a mere 12 days at their wedding, and wishing intensely he was with me there. Even though it was early days for us, I knew he was the one and remember boring people senseless talking about him at the reception. Also, it was the start of my love affair shooting weddings. Who knew? I was absolutely hooked. Just weeks later I had my next wedding booked and off I went.

I still love these images, they bring it all back and I love the film colours of them. I printed out about 300 for them (I remember just dumping them on poor Gary in a plastic bag one day – classy!) and have very few copies myself but here they are anyway.

So, **Congratulations guys!** Out of all our married friends these guys are two of the coolest & most fun to be with and we miss them a lot. A decade of happy marriage in these days is nothing to be sniffed at & we hope to celebrate another 10 years with them in the future.
